When should I shave ?

To begin with, it’s important to remember that a successful shave starts by opening up the pores on your face, so it’s best to get out of a hot shower or apply a hot towel, whether in the morning or the evening: if you’re the type of person who tends to wash up at the end of the day, you might want to wait until then before shaving.

The morning

First of all, and especially if your hair is particularly thick, you’ll avoid the famous 5pm shadow appearing on your face, that slight re-growth that leaves you prickly (in the bad sense of the word). By shaving in the morning you can be sure of arriving at the office clean-shaven.

However, in the morning, when you’re not fully awake, it’s easy to make a mistake and the risk of cutting yourself is greater. Cutting your shave is a great way to arrive late, the last thing you want to do in the morning.

In the evening

In the evening, you have more time, so you’ll pay more attention to detail and your work will be more polished. Shaving after a night-time shower is also a good way to relax and take some time for yourself. What’s more, when you sleep at night, your freshly shaved skin has time to rest and heal itself. So you’ll have less redness. Not to mention that you’ll have more time to stop any cuts. However, for men with very thick hair, night-time regrowth is inevitable, leaving a light shadow on the face in the morning.

Conclusion

Morning or evening ? It all depends on your hair. If it’s coarse, there’s a risk of night-time regrowth, which could force you either to shave again or arrive at the office with a slight regrowth. If they are fine, the evening is a perfectly acceptable time to shave. Whatever happens, always shave after a shower to open the pores and soften the hair, which ensures a closer shave and reduces the risk of cuts.
